I’m sharing this puree I’ve been making almost every couple of weeks because not only is it a great way to add some nutritional goodness to my toddler’s food, but it’s a fantastic way of using up spinach or any other leafy greens so they don’t go unused and wasted! You could easily use this puree to make a toddler friendly version of my Haryali Fried Rice & Haryali Spaghetti (just omit the green chilis). I’ve used this puree in many of Shaan’s foods like soups, pastas and even his scrambled eggs!
How to Freeze This Puree:
I highly recommend getting silicone freezer trays like this one with a lid or this one from amazon. The cover keeps the puree from absorbing any other smells in the freezer and keeps things nice and tidy and stackable as well. You can freeze this puree for upto 3 months although it probably won’t last that long! Once the puree is frozen, you can always remove the cubes from the tray and store them in freezer safe bags.
How Much Puree Does This Recipe Make?
This recipe yielded about 8 large cubes for me which was about 3 cups of puree.
What I Use to Blend This Spinach Puree:
I have this blender which I love and highly recommend if you find yourself using a blender often, its’ worth the investment. Of course, you could use any high speed blender to get this puree nice and smooth.
Swap Outs & Herbs :
You can use a combination of leafy greens in combination with the spinach but certain greens like kale may make this a little bitter and it depends on how picky your toddler is. My favorite combination is spinach and cilantro but I’ve also thrown in some leftover kale & parsley from time to time and it’s worked great.
If you don’t want to add garlic and ginger to this recipe feel free to omit it but again, it’s a great way to add flavor to your toddler’s meals without
Feeding Faves:
- We’re currently using the 4 Moms High Chair (the third high chair we got & finally loved!) because its easy to clean, the seat height is adjustable, and although it doesn’t have wheels it is still super easy to move around. The tray can also be removed with one hand which is absolutely necessary!
- If you’re little one is a little fussy like mine, we like to have this waterproof book on hand to keep him occupied (it’s meant for the bath but works great for messy meal times since it can be washed!).
- Oh, and if you’re concerned about turmeric stains, or stains in general ruining your little one’s clothes, I swear by soaking all of Shaan’s clothes in a bucket of Oxi Clean Powder & water over night and then throwing them in the wash the next day. I’ve also heard Shout Cleaning Spray works great!
Fussy Toddler Tip:
- Throwing a small handful of shredded cheese on Shaans’s tray, or a torn piece of pita keeps him occupied and entertained so I can get a few more minutes to get his meal together. Bonus, it helps sharpen those motor skills too!
I hope you all enjoy this recipe and if you’re little one loves it, tag me because babies eating is like the best thing in the world to watch! Tag me in @thchutneylife or with #thechutneylife so I can see what yumminess everyone is upto! Happy Eating !
