What is “Kung- Pao”?
Kung Pao dishes are Chinese in origin and robust in flavors of red chili, and peanuts! I used to be obsessed with kung pao chicken and Kung Pao noodles growing up so I thought i’d give it a shot with this recipe! I opted out of using any whole red chili in this recipe and instead relied on the heat of sriracha sauce! If you like Indo- Chinese recipes or East Asian cooking, you will love these flavors!
How Do You Make Brussels Sprouts in the Air Fryer?
I like to buy bagged brussels sprouts in the ready to steam bags because they are usually already trimmed. I don’t steam them in the bag- it just cuts down on the process! My recipe calls for chopped up, seasoned brussels sprouts in the air fryer for about 10 minutes that then get tossed in a ridiculously delicious and spicy sauce! These brussels sprouts are crispy, crunchy and can be made so many different ways! The peanuts add an additional level of crunch, too!
Why Use an Air Fryer?
I find the “set it and forget it” method with the air fryer to be very convenient but moreover, you’re able to achieve a wonderful “crisp” that is sometimes just not possible in the oven.

Air Fryer Kung Pao Brussels Sprouts
Yield 2-4 Servings
Combine the following in a large bowl:
4 cups brussels sprouts, outer layer peeled and quartered
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil like Lucini Italia Premium Select
1 tsp garlic powder
pinch of salt and pepper
1/4 cup roasted salted peanuts
Kung Pao Sauce:
In a small bowl combine the following:
3 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp honey
1 tbsp Sriracha
1/2 tsp ginger, grated
1/2 tsp garlic, grated
1/2 tsp rice wine vinegar
1/2 tsp crushed red chili flakes
- Preheat the air fryer to 360 degrees.
- Mix everything listed under brussels sprouts together except for the peanuts and put in the air fryer for 8 minutes, stopping when there are two minutes left- add in the peanuts and continue to cook for the remaining two minutes. If you like your brussels sprouts crispier, cook for an additional few minutes being careful to not burn them.
- Once the brussels sprouts are done cooking, remove from the air fryer into the same bowl you mixed them in-toss them with the Kung Pao sauce and enjoy immediately!
